Linux update policy

Draft for pre order stage. Final version will be solicitor reviewed before payment.

1. Purpose of this policy

This policy explains Endurabook’s long term commitment to Linux compatibility. It supports the Endurabook 15 year software update guarantee and the 5 year hardware warranty.

2. 15 year hardware level Linux compatibility

Endurabook guarantees that the laptop will remain compatible with mainstream Linux distributions for at least 15 years from the date of delivery.

This commitment refers to hardware level compatibility with the Linux kernel and open source drivers. It does not depend on any specific distribution.

3. Distribution flexibility

Endurabook supports Zorin OS at launch.

If Zorin OS becomes incompatible with the hardware at any point, Endurabook will provide a supported upgrade path to another mainstream Linux distribution such as Ubuntu, Lubuntu or Linux Mint.

This ensures long term usability even if a specific distribution changes direction.

4. Low system requirements

Many Linux distributions, including Lubuntu, have very low system requirements and are designed to run on hardware more than 15 years old. This makes long term compatibility realistic and sustainable.

5. Windows compatibility

Endurabook does not guarantee long term compatibility with Microsoft Windows.

Windows updates, driver changes and hardware support decisions are controlled solely by Microsoft and may change at any time.

Endurabook will provide guidance where possible, but Windows compatibility is not part of the 15 year commitment.

This ensures the policy remains accurate and avoids promising support for a platform outside Endurabook’s control.

6. Scope of this commitment

This policy covers:

  • Linux kernel and driver compatibility
  • Compatibility with modern Linux distributions
  • Guidance on migration to alternative distributions if required

This policy does not guarantee:

  • compatibility with any specific Linux distribution for 15 years
  • compatibility with third party software
  • compatibility with operating systems that discontinue x86 support
  • compatibility with Microsoft Windows beyond what Microsoft provides

7. Status of this document

This is a draft policy provided for transparency during the pre order phase.

A final, solicitor reviewed version will be supplied before any payment is taken.
